A Night at Sommerro

From the moment I stepped into Sommerro, I felt instantly at ease. Walking into my Villa Inkognito Deluxe Room, the soft, warm lighting and rich materials made it feel intimate and luxurious without being intimidating. Every detail — from the textures to the layout — felt intentional, creating a sense of quiet comfort that extended throughout the hotel.
The Villa Inkognito Experience
I stayed in one of the Villa Inkognito – Deluxe Rooms, and it was one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen. Soft, warm lighting and rich materials made the room feel intimate and luxurious without ever being intimidating. The room balanced style and functionality perfectly and felt like a private retreat within the hotel.
The bathroom deserves special mention. Spacious, elegant, and beautifully designed, it felt more like a private spa than a standard hotel bathroom. It became a space I genuinely looked forward to using, complementing the overall wellness-focused vibe of the hotel.

Art Deco Elegance with a Modern Touch
Sommerro’s décor is one of its standout features. Housed in a historic building, the hotel blends Art Deco elegance with modern Scandinavian design. Rich materials, bold geometric patterns, and carefully chosen color palettes create a sense of glamour without ever feeling overwhelming. Every space — from the lobby to the hallways — invites you to slow down and notice the details.
The building’s history makes it even more special. Originally the headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city’s former electricity company, many original architectural elements have been preserved. Subtle nods to its industrial past appear throughout the hotel, adding depth and character while seamlessly coexisting with modern design. Despite its grandeur, the atmosphere feels warm and approachable — luxurious yet lived-in, stylish but never stiff.

Attentive Service and a Lively Social Scene
Service at Sommerro deserves praise. From a smooth early check-in to thoughtful gestures throughout our stay, the staff made everything feel effortless and genuinely welcoming.
Dinner at Ekspedisjonshallen, the only restaurant open on our Monday visit, was a highlight. The service was relaxed yet professional, and the space felt vibrant without being formal. It’s clearly designed as a central gathering point where guests can linger and enjoy the atmosphere.
Sommerro also has an active event calendar, regularly hosting live jazz, comedy nights, and other cultural happenings. Even on quieter days, there’s a sense of energy and community, making the hotel feel like a lively cultural hub rather than a traditional hotel.
Wellness and Vestkantbadet
Wellness is a major part of the Sommerro experience. Vestkantbadet, the hotel’s bathhouse, draws on traditional bath culture and features a variety of pools and saunas for total relaxation.
The rooftop pool adds another dimension, offering stunning views over the city — the perfect spot to slow down after a day of exploring or an evening at the hotel. Alongside the pools, Sommerro offers a modern fitness area and spa treatments, creating a well-rounded approach to well-being. The balance between lively social spaces and tranquil wellness areas is what makes the stay feel truly restorative.
Final Thoughts
Sommerro isn’t just a hotel stay — it’s an experience. Between the luxurious, thoughtfully designed rooms, attentive service, vibrant social atmosphere, and serene wellness offerings, every detail felt intentional. By the time I left, I was already planning my next visit.
